Spotlight not finding kMDItemKeywords for XLSB files. Why?

I have Microsoft Excel for Mac '08. I receive from colleagues files with the extension XLSB - meaning, "binary." I can open this spreadsheet in MS for Mac. While open, I can go to the File dropdown and select Properties. There I can enter tags into the Keywords file. When I search for this file using the tags I have placed in Keywords, Spotlight does not find the file. When I reopen the file and navigate to the File dropdown and select Properties, the tags are still there.

However, if I repeat this process on an Excel file with an XLSX extension, Spotlight will find the file. Is there any remedy for this?

Thanks.

Hi Matt -

I'm not the world's greatest authority on this issue, but my gut reaction
would be that there is nothing within Excel that will change the
circumstances. I would expect that the problem lies with Spotlight being
unable to penetrate binary files. Failing more knowledgeable replies here I'd
suggest you post the question in the Apple Discussions Forum & check the
Apple KBs for info on the subject.
