How can I prevent Spotlight from searching my Entourage mail messages?

Following the instructions in the Mac Help file didn't do it -- I
dragged the Main Identities folder (where the database lives - right?)
to the Privacy panel of Spotlight as directed but it did not prevent a
search from including my Entourage mail messages.

What'd I do wrong? TIA.

Spotlight does not get its information from the MUD folder; it can only
index single files, but not a database file like Entourage's. In that sense,
it won't hurt to leave the MUD folder on Spotlight's privacy list, as it
cannot read it anyway, and its attempts to index it might slow the system
down. Now, to your question: if you don't want Spotlight to search any mail
messages (including Apple Mail messages), simply uncheck the Mail Messages
checkbox in the Search Results tab of Spotlight's preferences. If you only
want to prevent Entourage's mail messages from showing up in Spotlight,
browse to ~/Library/Caches/Metadata/Microsoft/Entourage/2004/<your identity
name>/ and drag the Messages folder into Spotlight's Privacy window, since
that's the folder into which Entourage mirrors the mail contents of its
database.

Cripes. I'm embarrassed that I overlooked that. Thanks.

Thank you.

Easier still, to stop entourage messages from being spotlight indexed, turn
off that option in the entourage prefs.
