Spreading the effort: variable duration tasks

Hi all,

This could also have been labeled "multiple constraints tasks". Here's
the challenge: how does one configure a task (and work assignments)
for variable duration?

I want to configure my network of tasks so that I can have task A's
start dependant on an event, and task A's finish also dependant on
(another) event. This way, I could spread the effort of the assigned
ressources on task A to whatever duration will ensue depending on the
multiple constraints.

Say task A's start is dependant on taks B's finish
Say task A's finish is dependant on task C's finish
Then, the duration of task A will vary, depending on B's finish and
C's finish
Then, the linear effort (by way of the number of units) could vary and
make it so that the ressource's effort will be spread all along the
(variable) duration of task A.

How does one achieve that in MS Project 2000?

Any suggestions will help!

Task A is a hammock task. See FAQ 19 "Hammock Tasks" at
