I was checking the newsgroup for experiences of "co-existence" of SharePoint
Portal Server and Project Server on the same Server and found this posting.
<< Project2003 WSS and SPS2003 can be installed on the same server. The
install is a little bit tricky. Here are the main steps:
1/ installl SPS 2003 (make sure that frontpage extensions are not installed
2/ run WSSWIZ.exe
3/ do not extend the default virtual site in WSS, instead create a portal
site in the Default site
4/ create a WSS site
5/Install projectserver2003 (if you install services make sure you do that
install first)
6/Check that the application identity for project server is not using the
Portal identity (it causes the grid not to function properly), but uses a
Network type identity. >>
I have a standalone trial server that I use for demonstration/testing
purposes that is running Windows 2003 Server. I have installed the Loopback
Adapter. I attempted to install both SharePoint Portal Server and Project
Server on the server having seen the newsgroup posting above and also
followed the instructions as listed at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;840701
I managed to get both installed but screwed up - not quite sure where but I
figure it is probably on specifying the correct website. Looking at the
newsgroup posting and comparing with the official line from Microsoft there
is a conflict in that the advice on the newsgroup was not to extend the
default site whereas Microsoft's advice is to extend the Virtual Server.
I have a couple of questions and hope the newsgroup can help.
Are there any specific steps to take once SPS2003 is installed before
creating a WSS site in IIS? This is most probably more of a SPS issue than a
Project Server issue.
How do you check front page server extensions are not installed, I have
checked this in IIS previously and also on the configure your server options
for Windows 2003 Server is there anywhere else I should look?
How do I check that the application identity for project server is not using
the Portal identity?
Thanks in advance.
