SQL 2000 named instance

Please clarify - to install Project Server 2003 w/a named instance of SQL
Server 2000, do I need to have MDAC 2.6 or 2.7 installed as a minimum?

You should have MDAC 2.8 to make sure that everything works as expected. The
fact that you're using a named instance doesn't have any bearing on this
requirement.

Thanks for your reply, but I'm still a little confused.

This is where my question stems from...I'm currently looking at MS course
2732 and in the course it states in one place that 2.6 must be installed to
use a named instance of SQL, and in another place it states 2.7. I have
suggested to students that they use the latest version, but wondered what the
"real" requirement was suppose to be? If this doesn't have any bearing on
using a named instance, should it not be mentioned in the course at all?

If Gary would allow me to jump in here... ;)

PM, I would think the latest released version would probably always be
your best bet. Certainly in my experience there is no issues with
using 2.8.

Ok, point made. What the 2732 course elludes to is that 2.7 contains the
updated code for connecting to named instances. However, I wouldn't
recommend either 2.6 or 2.7 as these both suffer deficiencies with regard to
Project Server, so why go there? The courseware is old and contains some
errors.

Thanks. I have found quite a few things in this course that don't quite add
up, so I'll add this to the list! Thanks for everyone's help!
