SQL Error while loading a Project

S

Sergej Tissen

In our university we have running a server. The OS is Windows Server 2003.
SQL Server and Project Server are also installed on this server.
When I'm trying to open (from another computer) a Project stored in the
Project Server, then I get a SQL Errormessage. The SQLState is 01000 and the
SQL Server-Error is 2. The message says, that there is a further error with
a SQLState 08001 and SQL Server-Error:17.
After Clicking on the OK Button, I get a SQL Server-Login window. There I
have to type the url of the SQL Server, the sql user name and the sql
password.
The default values for the user name and password are correct. The default
value for the SQL Server url is: 127.0.0.1 and when I type in the correct url
of the server, then I can open the Project. So why is MS Project searching
for the SQL Server on my local machine, instead of searching on the server?
Where can I change this Property?

Thanks,
Sergej Tissen

1. Check the MDAC version on the client and the server. It should be MDAC
2.8 or greater. (Microsoft recommends 2.7, but I have seen issues that
version.)
2. Verify that the server is running SQL SP 3a or 4.

Hope this helps.

Sergej:

One other thought. This can occur if you use "LocalMachine" for your server
name when specifying server connections during installation. Only the
netbios or FQDN names work here.

First of all thanks for the fast answers.

2. Verify that the server is running SQL SP 3a or 4.

The MDAC Version is 2.82 and SQL server has SP 3

Which installation do you mean? When installing SQL Server of MSProject
Server? I did not install these servers, so can I find out which settings
were used during the installation?
