SQL Server Errors w/Proj Professional over Inet

T

Troy Jerkins

I'm having great difficulty connecting Project Pro 2003 to our Project 2003
Server over the Internet.

Web access is fine. The Server is on a DMZ with Ports 443 open for SSL
through a browser. Authentication is Windows.
I've opened port 1433 - TCP and 1434 -UDP thinking that would help.
Both clients(s) and server are on the same MDAC version (2.8 RTM).
The error I receive is:

Connection failed:
SQL State: `01000`
SQL Server Error: 10060
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]ConnectionOpen
{connect{}}.
Connection Failed:
SQL State: `08001`
SQL Server Error: 17
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]SQL Server does not exist
or access denied.

Then I get a SQL Server Login Prompt with the MSProjectUser ID and Password.
Which I set by running ConnInfo.exe on the server. Is this supposed to work
over the Internet? The network looks like this:

Client---->MSProjPro2003-------->Firewall------>DMZ(Project Server/SQL
Server)-------->LAN

I don't know what else to do here.

Thanks,

-Troy

Troy:

This is not supposed to work across the Internet. It can, but it's very
painful. A better solution is to use Terminal Services or even PCAnywhere
for a very small deployment.

Thanks Gary. I found the recently published configuration guide last night
on MS's site. Does anyone know if there are plans to allow this to function
using COM Internet Services? Much like OL 2003 can be configured with
Exchange 2003 to access using HTTP over RPC.

Troy:

The product team is completely re-engineering the client to thin it down.
Expect this type of functionality in the next release.
