How can I write a formula including "to the power of" P^2?

There are two ways to do this. You can use superscript formatting (Format |
Font | Superscript or use the Ctrl+Shift+= shortcut) for any exponent. For
squares and cubes there are specific font characters, ² and ³, at positions
00B2 and 00B3 (Unicode) or 0178 and 179 (ASCII). You can insert the latter
using Insert | Symbol, or see
