SR-1a update problem

I did a search for updates & found I need the SR-1a
update. The initial download was no problem, but when I
used the wizard to update, it ran for about 5-10 seconds &
I got this message: 'MS Office 2000 SR-1 Update could not
download the Office 2000 SR-1 Core Update.' I was
downloading directly from Microsoft's Update section. What
is wrong?

Do you have a firewall enabled? It may be that this or some anti-virus
software is blocking your connection to download the update. I'd try
disabling or closing other programs running and then running the Update
Wizard again.

Hope this helps,
Ryan

Ryan:

Thanks for replying. Please bear with me if I sound out
of my element, but doing anything with firewalls, anti-
virus, etc. is new to me. How do I check to see if
something is running or if I even have them?

If you aren't sure if you are running a firewall chances are you probably
aren't. There is a built in firewall with Windows XP however that one
shouldn't be causing any blocking issues. Common antivirus software is
Norton or Mcafee. You may see one of these running in your system tray
(bottom right hand corner of your screen). If you do you can try to right
click them and select Close or Exit or something of this nature. After
doing that try running the wizard again and hopefully that will help. Good
luck and let me know if you have any more questions.

Thanks,
Ryan

Ryan: I did what you suggested & still get the same "can't
download..." message. I checked & a download of the full
SR1-a update is available. Can I download that & install
it with the same results?

Thanks for your assistance (& patience)
