My first problem is that I cannot access the suggested
file, ............aspx?Family etc....., I keep getting
timed out.

I did go into the How to obtain site and downloaded the
patch from there, but same problem.

Is it the fact that I am in the UK that's a problem.

I have since had great difficulty getting bak to the How
to site, (to busy I think)

I don't think it's the fact you're in the UK. At least I hope not--

When you say you downloaded the patch from there but same problem, does that
mean you also ran it from the location on your hard drive where you
downloaded it? Did it give you the "Update did not complete successfully"
error again, and if you check the logfile, do you find the same error that
{filename} is an invalid size?

Susan,

Yes, I just followed the prompts and continued the
download. I've now done it from, stright copy, without
downloading to hard drive and from a download to HD.

Each time I get the same error, and the log file is the
same as before.

Hm. Well, the only other thing I can suggest is that you run some disk
checking utilities, such as scandisk, and defragmenting your drive, cleaning
out temp files and so forth, to ensure there's not a problem with your disc.

You might also try requesting the patches on CD:

Hi, I just want to let you know that I tried to order sp2 a few weeks ago
(feb 1) and I got an email a week later saying that it was Status:
Discontinued. Only option, I guess is to download it.

And after you download it, copy it b/c my download "disappeared" after
installation. See "where are the downloaded sp-1 files?" thread from 2/1.

Susan, don't abandom me yet!!!!!!!!!!!

Having accessed the site to order the update disk, I read
mention of the data1 file.

I didn't think it relevant before now, but when I bot up
I get an error message stating, DATA1.Dat was not found.

Is there any relevance to this, with my difficulty
performing the download of SR1-a

Hi, Barrie,

I don't know what that file might be, but a search of Google turned up a
couple of threads that indicate this might be a parasite, and you could use
something like Lavasoft's Ad-Aware to get rid of it:

I don't think it's a Microsoft file. Another site mentioned that you should
also update your virus checker (which is never a bad idea).
