SSL connection for project server

Andrew

Hi All,

Does anyone use project server via a SSL connection. The reason why i ask is
our organisation has decided that they want to share out project Server from
been only in one environemnt across multiple environemnts and also through
the Internet. The question i have is how does Project Professional couple
with a SSL connection??
Is there any way of changing project server from using
Http://servername/project server to https://servername/project.
Is there any easy way of doing this? has anyone attempted or heard of this??

Hi Andrew

SSL and PS/Project Pro works fine together as long as the SSL certificates
are valid.
I had some problems with a test certificate but I installed the certificates
on the client as well and it solved the problems.
Install the certificate, turn on "Requires SSL connection" on the website
and configure the PWA to use HTTPS (Admin - Manage Windows Sharepoint
Services)
On the client that runs Project Pro you have to change the setting in the
"Collaborate" area.

Thanks Jesper

So under the PWA administration page to configure Project Server to use SSl
you just need to change the intranet address to the new https: address.
Do you need to do anything else to PS. I know how to set up IIS but thought
i may need to change some at a database level??

Hi Andrew

It's been a while since I "went HTTPS" but as far as I remember the only PS
changes are to be made in PWA Admin.
No database changes are required.
The SSL certificates gave me some problems though. I had to install the
certificate .p7b file and .cer file on the client to enable connection to PS
via Project Pro.

You'll have to bear in mind that the ProjectPro client talks directly to the
SQLServer for opening/saving/publishing plans - the web bit works using SSL
without problems but running SQLServer connections using SSL for encryption
still require opening SQLServer ports through the firewall.
