Stacked Column Chart - Decrease height of columns

I have this stacked column shart with 3-D visual effect, in which I would
like to decrease the height of the columns vis-vis the plot area as I need to
insert text boxes in the plot area over the columns. How do I go about it?
Can somebody pl. help me with this?

Increase the Y axis maximum so that the columns do not reach so high.

If you're adding textboxes, make sure you select the chart before adding the
textboxes, so they are embedded in the chart, rather than in the worksheet.
Also you will be well served to change to a 2D chart, otherwise it will soon
become very cluttered.

how do I go about changing it to 2-D?

Hi,

Select the chart. On the Chart Tools > Design > Type > Change Chart Type.

Go to Chart menu > Chart Type, and the selected chart type and subtype will
be highlighted. Change to the same subtype, except without the 3D effects.

As you instructed me to, I am embedding the text boxes in the chart area
(below the plot area). I tried by two methods - the one u suggested as well
as using ctrl+x and then ctrl+v. When I copy the chart and try paste it in
word, the text box doesn't appear. Also in Excel, when I de-select the chart,
the text box disappears automatically. If I select the chart again, it
re-appears. The other text boxes, which are in the plot area, work fine.
What's going wrong with the chart area text box? Excel is beginning to tire
me out!

I don't understand why this is happening. I've never seen this behavior.

If you drag one of the misbehaving text boxes to a different place in the
chart, does it still disappear when you select the chart? If you double
click on the pasted chart in Word (to activate it in Excel), does the text
box appear?

When I try to paste the chart, only the box appears, the text disappears. In
Excel, when I select and copy and then click where I want to paste it, the
same thing happens. I tried the double clicking in word also, but to no
avail. I have another similar chart which worked just fine. Also, like u
suggested, I dragged the box to the plot area and the text didnt' disappear!
It does so only in the chart area. What am I doing wrong?

I've never heard of such a thing. If it works on other charts, I'd suggest
reconstructing the misbehaving chart. Could be some "corruption", whatever
that means.
