Stand Alone Eval working for PWA but Project Pro won't connect

Hi, I have Project Server 2007 installed as an evaluation copy. PWA works
fine but Project Pro 2007 won't connect. I have tried different combinations
of URLs but it makes no difference. Can anyone advise me on how to find out
what the URL should be?

Should be whatever your PWA URL is (e.g. http://<ServerName>/PWA/
<http://<ServerName>/PWA/> ).

Are you sure it's not a credentials problem? If you're not running Pro
as the account with which you are attempting to log into PWA, you will
need to use the "Enter User Credentials" checkbox.

Thanks, I will try this out later..I did notice there was something not quite
right with the Active Directory Group sunchronisation but wasn't sure if that
ould have affected it?

It could be. I would verify that the user is in the correct group and
has the correct NT Account information.

Hi there ,

Normally if one can connect to PWA and see the page it means the
server is ok. I agree with stephen that it is the AD sync issue.
Another suggestion would be to manually create the user in PWA and
give him Project Manager rights on the server.

Hi guys, here is the latest situation:-

1) I have a user set up initially in Windows Server and then manually
setup in PWA. I have done nothing in PWA or Windows Server to do with AD
sync as I am not a Windows expert at all.

2) PWA works fine.

3) In my User details on PWA my test user has Windows Authentication
ticked and the User logon account reads - SVCTAG-C7BNQ3J\Joe Bloggs

4) When I log off Windows as an Administrator and logon as Joe Bloggs, I
then start PWA to check that works - although it asks me for Joe Bloggs'
password rather than completely starting automatically. PWA works fine for
Joe.

5) I then config the Proj Pro server account as follows:-

a. call the account name - "test"

b. specify the Project Server URL as the same text string as the PWA
home page URL

c. Tick the Use Windows user account and then set it as the default
account.

6) When I start Proj Pro I get a "Could not connect to Server" dialog box
message and cannot get any further.

Where should I now look to troubleshoot ??

Several questions:

1. SVCTAG-C7BNQ3J - sounds like a server name to me. is the server
joined to a domain, or is it standalone?

2. Are you performing all these tests from the same machine Project
Server is installed to?

3. When you say that you "logon as Joe Bloggs", where are you
logging in to (e.g. is it the same system you are logged into as an
Administrator)?

4. What system are you running Pro from (e.g. is it the same system
you log into and access PWA from)?

5. Have you configured PWA to use SSL?

6. Are you running any sort of firewall between the client and
server (e.g. Norton Internet Security)?

7. Do you see any errors in the Application Log of the server? How
about in the IIS logs?

Hi Gary,

When logged on as Administrator I am Not asked for credentials when opening
up PWA (although Proj Pro won't connect via Administrator account)....when I
log off as Administrator and login as Joe I am asked for credentials when
opening up PWA.

One thought ..should there be specific groups set up in Windows Server
computer management eg Project Managers of which Joe is classified as?

Hi Stephen,

1. Server is completly standalone..just a box sitting in my den at home.

2. All from the same machine.

3. As above same machine.

4. As above same system ie Windows Server 2003.

5. Not sure (not an expect and have not configured anything myself) - PWA is
showing http not https.

6.No firewall software whatsoever.

7. Sorry - wouldn't know where to look.

In summary, wherever the problem is Im convinced it is a simple one..I just
bought a server..installed Windows Server 2003 (following the wizards);
installed the other pre-reques for Project Server 2007 and then installed
Project Server 2007 eval version in standalone mode thats it. Note I did all
of this before on a single machine for 2003 and got it to work fine.

Without a domain controller, you need to make sure that the local windows
account have local logon rights. Also, make sure that the browser is set to
automatically send the credentials and not prompt. I'm not used to working
with PS without a domain environment.
