standard toolbar messed up

Dear all,

The standard toolbar on my pc has disappeared, even when the toolbar is
ticked under View-toolbars it is not there. The toolbar is not on the same
line as any other toolbar. Resetting the toolbar has no effect. Even the
little box that appears when one makes a customised toolbar has gone. Has
anyone met this before?
