Start date for summary tasks

Hey,

I am trying to produce my first Gannt chart using MS Project.

I have identified all the tasks that need to be completed and have split
these into summary and subtasks.

However.. i CANNOT (no matter how hard i try!) change the start date of a
summary task - it seems to be set to the project start date and I cannot
change it.

I have tried double clicking on the tasks in question, but the start and
finish dates seem to be set as default - they are in light grey and I cannot
change them.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm getting so frustrated!!

I have tried selected the task,

The start date of the summary task is the start date of the earliest subtask
within that summary.
The finish date of the summary task is the finish date of the latest subtask
within that summary.

You can not change the start or finish of summary tasks.
Simply change the dates of the subtasks and the summary task will adjust to
match them.
