start up issue when optimizing font menu performance..

on Mac OS 10.3.9 with Office 2004...

when starting up either of the apps Excel, Word, PowerPoint, on the
start up screen has:
optimizing font menu performances...
than a window pops up stating:
The font Arial is corrupt and should be removed. (with ok button).
when clicked it brings up another window with another font, and keeps
going until it goes through ALL my fonts. This happens with every one
of these apps every time it's launched!

I tried removing all the preferences, but no luck.
Please, please, any suggestions with detailed informaiton on a
resolution other than having to reinstall.

Thank you very much

I'd recommend going to your Applications folder, and open up Font Book.
Click on "All Fonts." Then hold down Command while hitting the letter
"A." Click on the "File" menu, and choose "Validate Fonts."

See if that works.
