I am looking to have a file open(bills.xls) by default instead of the new
excel book. I have researched knowledge base without much luck. excel 2000
office running on OS xp, dual boot. Excel properties show file location as
(E:\documents and settings\administrator\my documents) Any suggestions would
be appreciated.

hi,
you need to put your bills.xls file in your start folder.
on my pc it is at c:\program files\office2k\office\xlstart
but pc's are not all set up the same so you might have to
hunt the xlstart folder. Do a find from the start button.
But any file in the xlstart folder will open when xl is
started.
how that helps
regards
Frank

OK I found the XLstart folder but it seems I have a folder in there that is
associated with winfax, I tried to open it and it said it has macros
installed,so I checked certificates and it said program from sysmatic and its
certificates are expired. Should I delete this folder and then somehow put
the Bills.xls folder in its place. I just looked at startup folder not the
xl startup folder and it has the Winfaxword folder in it. I'm a little leary
of deleting the winfax folder since it is associated with winfax program. I
have 4 drives I'm working with, but I only want to change the xp drive
startup folder for the excel program. Thanks for your help...
