Starting a new auto numbering list after a heading on the same lin

I just switched from Word 2002 to Word 2007. After marking all the boxes I
can locate to accept automatic numbering, I'm still unable to do what I used
to be able to do in 2002, which is automatically start a numbered list after
an introductory word on the same line. I'm positive that I'm missing
something so simple. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

MEDICATIONS: 1. Word.
2. Word.
3. Word.

I also want the 2. to line up under the 1. and so forth.

You can use a two-column table, placing the text in the first cell.
