Starting and Stopping Footers

I'm trying to create different footers for different pages.

Pages 1-2 should have no footers.

Pages 3-4 should have the following footer.

Far left Center Far right
Date Inital here Page # of #

Page 5 should have the following footer:

Far left Far right
Date Page # of #

Is this something that should be done with sections ?

You need two section breaks: one at the end of page 2 and one at the end of
page 4. Then activate the header/footer area (for example by double-clicking
the footer) and unlink the footer of sections 2 and 3. For more, see
http://word.mvps.org/faqs/formatting/front_matter_2007.htm.

If the content of page 4 needs to flow onto page 5, then it can be done
without a section break. For the center portion, use this field:

{ IF { PAGE } < { NUMPAGES } "Initial here" }

Stefan,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I'll try that.

Doesn't using sections get messy when determining when they start and
stop ?

Suzanne,

That works !

I hadn't paid much attention to field codes in the past, but now it's
like writing formulas in Excel.

Thanks !

If you display nonprinting marks, for example by clicking the ¶ button on
the Home tab (Word 2007-2010) or on the Standard toolbar (Word 97-2003), you
can see all the section breaks in the document.

In addition, you can have the status bar display the current section number.
In older versions of Word, the number displays by default, and in Word
2007-2010 you can right-click the status bar and choose to display it.
