Starting in the middle of a slide's animation

I'm working on a presentation with quite a bit of animation. When I want to
see how it flows, for example, at 0:47 into the slide, I have to sit through
the first 46 seconds every time I make an adjustment. Is there a way to start
the animation effects in the middle, say at :38 seconds?

Unfortunately not - it would be a great feature. It's why I try to split
animations over several slides whenever possible....
