Starting on even page

Bob

I'm using Heading 2 to format chapter titles. On the style's
Paragraph tab I can set it to start on a new page. I'd like it to
start on an even page, even if that means putting an extra blank page
in the book.

I can add a page break (even page) manually, but I want this to be
part of the style.

Can I do this in Word (I could do it in Describe)? If so, how?

Thanks,
Bob K.

Hi Bob,

Even-page start is a section property rather than a paragraph property, so it
isn't something you can do in the style. But you can do it by making each
chapter a new section and specifying even-page start -- either individually
(Insert-> Break-> Even Page) or throughout the document (File-> Page Setup->
Layout tab-> Section Start-> Even Page).

An alternative approach, perhaps riskier in some ways but cleaner in others, is
to place a *field* at the end of each section except the last, which tests the
current page number and adds a page break if that page is even. Details at:

http://word.mvps.org/faqs/tblsfldsfms/InsEvnPgEndChap.htm

BTW, the even page is usually the left-hand page. Are you sure that's what you
mean? If not, change all the 'even's to 'odd's above. (The link given shows
how to force an *odd* page start.)
