Starting Outlook refers to file ...\Addins\outbak.dll

Recently, each time I start Outlook, I get the message:
c:\Documents and Settings\myname\Application
Data\Microsoft\AddIns\c:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~2\OFFICE11\Addins\outbak.dll is
not a valid Office Add-in.

But the Addins folder has no file. Where would Outlook have this incorrect
setting?

Any idea what this is?

I'm on Outlook 2003 on Windows XP Pro.

Close Outlook - find and rename extend.dat to .old. Reopen Outlook. If the
problem persists, go to Tools->options->advanced->other and check under both
COM add-ins, and Add-in Manager.

There's no extend.* file anywhere.

Clicking on Add-in Manager gives a list of add-ins that are legitimate, none
of which is Outlook Sync.

Clicking on COM Add-Ins gives this message. After confirming the message,
the list shows nothing has been added to this manager.

I don't get it.

Any more ideas?

Thanks!

Yes there is. It's in a hidden folder. With Outlook closed, open Windows
Explorer and enter the following in the Address field:

%AppData%\Microsoft\Outlook

Click Go. You'll see "Extend" or "Extend.dat" there. Delete it.
Clicking on Add-in Manager gives a list of add-ins that are
legitimate, none of which is Outlook Sync.

The DLL you mentioned is for Outlook Personal Folder Backup. It will be in
COM Add-Ins as "Outlook Backup Addin". If you want this backup defined
again, click the Add button, browse to C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office10\Addins, select outbak.dll, and click OK. If you don't want
the addin defined, with Outlook closed, open Regedit (Start>Run>regedit),
locate the key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins and delete the
entry Microsoft.OutlookBackup.1

The above link should help.
