starting point for cursor

I want to type a regular letter, and the cursor stays 3/4
way down the page.
I need it to be at the top left hand as per normal but
cannot get it to be there even when i do a page setup ?
I can't think what I must have done to change the settings
as it used to be normal..........
Help as i used word (98) on a regular basis

First check vertical alignment. File>Page
Setup>Layout>Vertical Alignment and make sure Top is
selected.

If that doesn't solve the problem, display non-printing
charaters (CTRL+*) and the header footer view
(View>Headers and footers) see if your header is filled
with empty paragraphs.
