When I try to send/forward mail i get an error that reads...

Command sent was: MAIL FROM: <[email protected]>

Response received is: 530 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first

I have seen other messages on here that have reported the same problem. One
said he pressed the "this server requires encryption ssl" or something
similar, on the advanced tab in email settings. I don't have that option it
says "this server requires a secure connection (ssl), but when i press it it
still doesn't work... I've tried all sorts of things and I'm getting nothing.
I have set up my Outlook that came with the computer and it works fine, but
if i can figure out the problem i'd rather use this office version... it has
all the calendars and everything on it... HELP :S

What version of Office/Outlook are you using and what port number are you
using? The reason that I ask is that with Office/Outlook 2003, you will
need to apply SP2 for Office 2003 before you can use SSL/TLS on a
non-standard port like 587.

I'm using office oulook 2002... my outgoing is to port 25, my ingoing to 995...

the account does not have "log on using secure password authentication
(spa).. if i did that it wouldn't work at all, so it's off...

outgoing server tab has "my outgoing server (smtp) requires
authentication"... and under that "use same setting as my incoming mail
server" is on

on the advanced tab, incoming is at 995 and "this server requires a secure
connection (ssl) is on... outgoing is at 25 and "this server requires a
secure connection (ssl) is not on...

i have messed around with all those "secure" options that have been
mentioned above and to no avail... i added outlook to my ok list on windows
firewall with nothing still... what is a STARTTLS command? when i test my
connection after set up it all says complete and that it worked well, but i
still get the STARTTLS command error.. i also tried to take mcafee off my
mail, because that is where the error was coming from, but after i did that
the email itself started giving me the same error, so it's not the virus
scan... so test account set up goes well, except that it doesn't actually
send out the test email either, but says it was complete... not sure what
else to say... i hope i was thorough enough... oh and my outlook express
works fine sending and receiving, so it must be an office thing i imagine...

STARTTLS means that the server is saying that if you wish to do something,
that it needs to happen over a secure (SSL or TLS) connection. I had
assumed that you where getting this on sending a message and not receiving
because it indicates that the command that triggered the error was a "MAIL
FROM" command.

Since you don't mention what ISP you have, have you tried calling/visiting
your ISP web site to see if they have instructions on how to configure
Outlook/Outlook Express to send/receive mail?
