Startup error in excel

Jim VW

Using XP Pro and Office 2000. Every time I try to start Excel, I receive
"Microsoft Excel for Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close. We
are sorry for the inconvenience." I updated Windows and Office from the MS
Update site, still the same problem. I uninstalled and re-installed office
and still the same problem. It worked yesterday and now nothing. Under "To
see what data this error report contains." is :

Exception Information
Code: 0xc0000005 Flags: 0x00000000
Record: 0x000000000000000 Address: 0x0000000030026ec1

And a list of info on 21 modules (files) too lenghty to repeat here.
Help!

Jan,

Thanks for the info. It turms out that I could start Excel in safe mode
which lead me to a corrupt .xlb file. Once I moved the .xlb out of the
folder it was in, Excel started up fine. Thanks again for the quick reply.
