Startup Task Pane not showing

I have ticked the Option to view the Startup Task Pane, but it does not
dislplay when Word is started. It shows momentarily (with nothing in it),
but is immediately removed. Is there anything else I have to do in order to
make it stick?

I'm running Word XP under Win XP(H) SP2. I had to remove and reinstall Word
recently (for another reason) and it still does this.

Can anyone help?
