State of things on exiting a for loop

In some places, after this loop

For Each nField In note.Range.Fields
....
Next nField

nField is the last field in the note. (note is a footnote.) Sometimes
it is set to nothing.

I haven't found the pattern. Any suggestions?

Is this suppose to be part of another message thread?
It seems totally 'out of the blue' or incomplete.

What if there weren't any fields? Then it would have to be set to nothing
in those cases.
