A customer running Microsoft Word 2007 SP1 has contacted me, the status bar
has recently disappeared and she wants to get it back, can anyone help?

Please note that I have re-posted at the suggestion of Microsoft TechNet
customer services and I am awaiting a response from MSFT.

Hi,

Glad to see you again.

I understand the status bar of your customer's Word 2007 SP1 disappears.

First, let's try Word safe mode:

Click start, click run, type "winword /a", could we see the status bar now?

Also, I noticed a article for Word 2003 and please check if your customer
is on Full Screen Mode:

Your toolbars are missing, your menu bar is missing, or your personalized
settings are not retained when you start Word
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/291484

If the issue persists in word safe mode, let's try to repair Office to test
the issue.

Please also let me know if your customer could see status bar in other
Office 2007 applications such as Excel?

Daisy Cao

Hi Daisy,

Thank you for your post, it's good to hear from you again.

I am going to see my customer tomorrow and will try starting Word in safe
mode.

If the Status Bar appears in safe mode I plan to try renaming the Normal
template (to eliminate corruption of this template) and if that doesn't work
I will rename the Word data key in the registry to see if this is the cause.

If both of these don't work or if I find that the Status Bar doesn't appear
in safe mode I will try repairing Word.

The customer tells me that she is running Word in Print Layout view. She
can see the Status Bar in the other Office apps she is running.

I will get back to you after 18:00 British Summer Time tomorrow.

Kind regards,
Malcolm

Hi Malcolm,

Thank you for your update.

If the issue disappears in Word safe mode. We can troubleshoot the issue
further with following steps in the article 921541:

Delete the Word Data registry key
Delete the Word Options registry key
Rename the Normal.dot or Normal.dotm global template file
Disable the Startup folder add-ins
Delete the COM add-ins registry key
Determine which COM add-in program is causing the problem

921541 How to troubleshoot problems that occur when you start or
use Word 2007, Word 2003, or Word 2002
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;921541

Please start to troubleshoot the issue with normal.dot and the data/options
registry. Then you may check the COM add-ins to figure out the root cause.

Hi Daisy,

I didn't get your second posting before I left for the day yesterday but the
problem was resolved by deleting the Word data registry key. Because I didn't
get your advice I didn't check the COM add-ins but if this happens again I
will do so.

I've kept the link to KB921541 which is a very useful article.

I think we can close this one, thanks again for your help,
Malcolm

Hi Malcolm,

I am glad to hear you figured out the issue is caused by the data registry
key.

Word safe mode is a general troubleshooting step for Word problems and we
can troubleshoot most Word issues with this command.

If you encounter any issues in the future, feel free to start a new thread
here, we can discuss the problem together again.

Daisy Cao
