status bar progress meter question

Hi,

I am importing a delimited text file with an unknown number of records into a table through a form interface. As the import may take up anything up to 2 minutes or so, i am interested in creating a customised progress meter in the status bar.

I have been fiddling around with the application.syscmd functionality, but i cannot get that to work. Any ideas or suggestions ?
