Status Document Property

I often use document properties for title, subject, etc. as well as some
custom properties. I then use the properties within the document, thus
allowing a central place to make changes.

The Status document property seems like a good place to include the document
revision, although I can't seem to access it as a field, so I can't use it
within the document.

Does anyone know how I might be able to use the Status document property
within the document?

I use MS Word 2007, but often save as 2003 format for interchange with others.

You can access it in Word 2007 using a content control (Insert
tab->Quick parts->Document Property->Status)

In Word 2003, as you say, there is no { Status } field or { INFO Status
} option.

The problem is that this property is one of the new "Core properties"
that are automatically mapped by Word 2007 to content controls, but it
isn't one of the old "Builtin properties" - even though it does survive
a round-trip to Word 2003 .doc format and back, it is perhaps
significant that it disappears if you save to .rtf (I think) or Word
2003 .xml format. Although I haven't checked, my guess is that even
though the value is in the Word 2003 .doc somewhere, you probably would
not be able to access it via VBA.

If that is true, if you really wanted to use this property you could
probably add Word 2007 VBA code that saved its value into a custom
docproperty or word Variable and use a { DOCPROPERTY } or { DOCVARIABLE
} field to insert it. Personally, I'd stick to using my own Custom
document property unless I were phasing out Word 2003 use reasonably soon.
