Status Indicator

Does anyone know what formula project uses to determine the Status of a task?

Thanks in advance.

JNB,

Thanks for your reply. I should have been more detailed in what I am trying
to do. I would like to create in a suctome field (Text 10) a graphical
indicator based on the status field Status. If Status filed contains late
for Task 1 then Text 10 shows Red Radio button, if it is on schedule it shows
a Green radio button.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Hello CB,

The actual data in the Status field is numbers with the following
correlation to what you see in the field:

Complete = 0
On Schedule = 1
Late = 2
Future Task = 3

So, you can create the formula in the Text10 field which simply
says:

[Status]

When you click the Graphic Indicators, create your test referencing
each of the numbers in turn. For example:
Equals 0 and then pick whatever graphic you wish for complete
Equals 1 and pick whatever graphic you wish for tasks which are on
schedule

Repeat for Late (2) and Future Tasks (3).

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

This prompts me the question why the status indicator comes up with "this
task is behind schedule". I removed the baseline but the indicator still
remained. Why?

Marck,

This status indicator is calculated according the end of the current date.

Hi MarkC,

No, the Status field in Project does not reference the baseline.
From help on the Status field:
---------------------------------------------
If the task is 100 percent complete, then Microsoft Office Project
2003 sets the Status field to Complete. If the task start date is
greater than the status date, then the Status field contains Future
Task. If timephased cumulative percent complete is spread to at
least the day before the status date, then the Status field contains
On Schedule. If the timephased cumulative percent complete does not
reach midnight on the day before the status date, then the Status
field contains Late.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

The field relies upon the Status date set in Project > Project
information.
I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Thanks Julie. That's just the answer I was looking for. I am not sure if I
quite understand it but will have a look at this another time. many thanks.

Julie,

Thanks,

This worked just as I wanted. Is there a way to insert additional graphical
indicator outside what project has in it's list. For instance if I found
something on the web or another program, can this be added to that predefined
list in Project?

Hi CB,

As far as I know, no. I imagine you'd have to edit the dll file
which contains the existing graphics and sorry, I'm not familiar
with that process, nor even to tell you where to start.

Hello all,

Status Date uses "default end time" of the current project as its default
time;
e.g. 02/27/09 17:00 (17:00 is the value on the Default end time box).

Given the above status date with time, what are the date with time figures
for
the following ?:
- "spread to at least the day before the status date"
- "midnight on the day before the status date"

Maybe this level of precision is not required for tracking purposes since
MSP will
update accordingly as soon as we enter actual values anyway. I have tried to
test the threshold times and it does not seem to work correctly.

I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks in advance.

Best Regards.

Hello JNB,

Default end time is defined in Tools > Options, Calendar tab. The
default start time is 08:00 the default end time is 17:00. The best
practice is to have those defaults match the project calendar
definition. As noted on the Calendar tab, the default start and end
times are used if you enter an actual start or actual finish date
without entering a time. If however, you record actual values (6
hours of work on a day) the actual end date may be different.

To view the precise times, change the format to show date and time
in Tools > Options, View tab.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
