Steps to Add a Custom Field

Diane

I simply want to have a text field in Tasks that is named PHASE. When a user
adds tasks though Project Professional, I would like that column to be
displayed for the user to enter text data into, and then have that field
passed to tasks in PWA.

How do I do this. I am confused between TAsk Text1 and Enterprise Task Text1.

Hey Diane,

You will want to use Enterprise Task Text1 because it will be enforced
across all projects and will allow you to publish to PWA. If you use Task
Text1, it will only be local to your single project although you could still
publish it to the timesheet view if you wanted.

I would suggest using the Enterprise Task Text1 because then you can have
control over what it is called and you can add it to the default Gantt view
so that everyone can see it automatically.

Once you have called your Enterprise Text1 "Phase" and logged off and back
on. You can open up a project and do the following to get the data to
display in PWA.

1) In a project go to Tools>Customize>Published Fields
2) Find Enterprise Text1(Phase) and move to the right.
3) I would suggest un-checking the option to "let resource change field"
4) Add the Phase column to a view and put in some data.
5) Go to Tools>Collaborate>Publish>Republish Assignments
6) Pick entire project or selected tasks you want to publish. If you scroll
to the right on this screen you will see that the Phase data will be
published as well.
7) In PWA under Admin>Manage Views select the Timesheet view and hit Modify
8) Find Enterprise Text1(Phase) and move to the right and place wherever you
want it to display (Probably to the left of the Task Name)
9) Verify under a users timesheet that the task they are assigned to has
Phase data displayed.

You will have to do a Republish assignments for this to propagate to PWA.
Publish All Information does not do the trick. You will have to do this
setup for each project once. You can add this to a project template so that
new projects will not need this step done to them as long as new projects
are created from the template.

Hope this helps.

YOU SAVED ME!

I though I had actually performed all those steps, but maybe just not
correctly or maybe I missed one.

Thanks for taking the time to help!

Regards,
Diane
