I am following up on previous posts in this forum with a post-SP1 plea for
help. I still cannot view messages or contacts in Entourage 2008. Here is
the basic background info, and I will happily supplement with anything that
may be helpful:
Entourage 2008 and Exchange 2003.
I can connect to the server very easily using either simple security or
kerberos. I can also connect via OWA (both from inside and outside the
firewall) or directly to the mail server (inside the firewall). In fact, it
connects with only the username and password, without a domain.
Entourage sees my mailbox, downloads the folder heirarchy, and even
successfully syncs the calendar (both directions). I can also change
permissions on the mailbox and create folders.
However, even though it churns away at "Synchronizing" the mail and contact
folders, the content of those folders is never displayed.
Opening the database with a hex editor shows that at least some of the
content is, in fact, in the database. I can see the URLs to messages, and in
some cases even the content of the messages. However, they never show up in
Entourage.
I have tried creating the DB from scratch numerous times; I have tried all
sorts of iterations on the security. I have tried downloading and installing
the certificate from our OWA server, and installing it (and the CA
certificate) into the (obsolete) x509 Anchors keychain. (I have also
installed in the other keychains as well).
Because the mail is in the DB (although apparently mostly encrypted), I
suspect there is some fundamental SSL problem going on, but I don't know
enough about SSL to figure out what. Also, when connected directly to the
mailserver internally, there should not be any SSL involved. However, I did
do a tcpdump when connected internally (i.e., no SSL), and saw a number of
"HTTP Error 500" warnings from the exchange server.
I can read mail through the web browser (both Firefox and Safari) via the
OWA server, so my computer should have appropriate permissions to open the
mailbox.
I have been beating my head against this for a month now, and really want
Entourage to work, so I am loathe to give up, but I just don't know what else
to try! Since I am an "unofficial" Mac user in a pure Windows environment,
my access to the server admins is limited. However, if I can take them a
specific suggestion of what the problem is, I may be able to get it remedied.
Thanks in advance
