Still having a problem wtih the Symbol fonts after Service Pack I - Need Help

I have a user who is still having problems with using the symbol fonts
in Microsoft Word 2004 for the Mac. He is getting the same exact
error that others mentioned earlier in the postings. His operating
system is 10.3.5 and he has installed service pack 1 and this has not
fixed the issue. Is there another method of fixing this? He really
needs to use the symbols font for his work. Any information anyone
has on a fix would be greatly appreciated. Take care - Jules

Hi Julie:

Sorry, I can't see the previous posts. Here's what I would do:

Carefully examine the user's system to see which VERSION of the Symbol font
he has installed. Do a GetInfo on the font. My system has a DFONT package
installed in /system/library/fonts version 4.1d3

Be aware that there may be more than one version of Symbol on the system.
Make sure you are using the latest one by removing the others, then reboot
the system. Rebooting causes both OS X and Microsoft Office to rebuild
their font caches.

Hope this helps
