Still having problems getting Outlook to start...

J

John C

Have tried "outcmd.dat" tip, only to find that no such file exists on my
machine, even after trying
[a] detect and repair
complete uninstall/reinstall Office 2003+SP1
[c] repair using support link in Add/Remove Programs
[d] "scanpst.exe" of the current pst file, errors found and fixed; I tried
this first :)

App. starts then immediately puts up error tile, with box offering to
restart Outlook checked by default. If this box is unchecked, so the app.
does not restart, the WINWORD.EXE process does not close but continues to
run, unseen, except in task manager.

The event viewer link is no help offering only the following bleak
assessment -

Outcmd.dat is on your machine as well. Make sure you can view hidden files
and folders. You can configure this in Control Panel-> Folder Options

Thanks Robert,

I'm not too familiar with newsgroup etiquette and realise I should have
replied to the group!

I do not have Outcmd.dat on machine. Folder Options are already configured
that way, and have done a further search of C drive just now.
The only files in folder C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook are -Outlook.NK2
-Outlook.srs
-Outlook.xml
-Outlprint [no extension this file]
Any suggestions from here, or is it the nuclear option? Thanks again.
