Still not receiving/sending emails

Outlook 2003 on XP Pro has stopped receiving and sending
emails. The automatic send/receive function is working. I get the following
messages:

mail.comcast.net -- Receiving reported error (0x800408ff) -- 'Unknown error.'

and:

mail.comcast.net -- sending reported error (0x80042108) 'The operation timed
out waiting for a response from the sending (STMP) server. Contact your
Internet service provider.

Comcast insists it is not their problem. I am able to collect and send email
through my web mail accounts (Comcast.net and Network Solutions.com.

I have read a number of posts the past week from people with similar issues,
but I have not seen any possible fixes.

Is Microsoft working on this problem? Is it related to the recent rash of
updates?
Will this be fixed in a reasonable amount of time?

Download a lightweight email client such as popcorn from
http://www.ultrafunk.com/products/popcorn/

If it can send/receive from your comcast account the problem is with
Outlook, if not, the problem is with Comcast

My Comcast send/receive works fine. I'm using the web mail function. That is
why I'm thinking the problem is with Outlook.

No. The problem could be anywhere between your machine and comcast's smtp
server.

If you are using webmail, then you are running the program on their server.
Run another email program (like Popcorn) on your machine. That way you are
testing one thing at a time (in this case, Outlook).

I have had the same problem some days ago. If you hav McAfee system
installed
follow this procedure:
Use Tsk Manager to stop the Mcvsescn.exe service.
Start with Outlook and it'll work correctly.
I'm waiting information from McAfee for this problem.

I just started having the problem with this error msg. Earthlink states I
have an email address that blocks access to receive email, although it will
let me send mail. I released and renewed my email address and I still have
the same issue. I use McAfee but don't have the Mcvsescn.exe running so I
can't stop that. Any more suggestions? adc
