still see deleted outlook emails as gray with line thru them

Still see deleted Outlook 2002 emails as gray with line thru them! Have tried
everything (rt click deleting, moving to Deleted Items folder, permanently
deleting Deleted Items folder, making a "rule" to send them to Deleted Items
folder before get to my Inbox, etc) And I've researched extensively to no
avail. How can I remove them so they don't show and I only see read and
unread emails that I haven't deleted?
