Still unable to delete Enterprise Project Outline Codes

S

Scott Gannon

I have read the previous replys on how to delete these 1) Delete the name 1)
Delete the Look Up Tables 2) Goto Organizer in Enterprise Global Template and
delete from there.

This doesn’t work for me. If I even select 1 level and add info into the
code mask screen (characters, number, etc) and do not even open the look up
table for editing, that Outline code is active and I cannot delete it. In the
organizer, I get the following message:

You cannot delete a shared enterprise outline code whose lookup table is
shared by another enterprise custom outline code. To delete, first remove the
shares.

I don’t have any lookup table data! It's not shared by anything! Do I
somehow need to delete the code masking info? Is that the problem?

I’m using PS 2003, with SP2a

Thanks in advanced.

Hi Scott,

It seems to be outline codes are still exist in enterprise global. Are
you looking to clean enterprise uutline code values?
Code mask also need to set/delete from enterprise global. I am not
sure, exaclty what you looking for?

Anyhow, I am listing the following steps to delete enterprise outline
code values from global:

************************************************
Open MS Project Professional

Tools -> Enterprise Options -> Open Enterprise Global

Tools -> Customize -> Enterprise Fileds

Click on Custom Outline Codes tab

Select required Outline Code (example: Enterprise Task Outline Code1
or Entreprise Resource Outline Code1 etc.)

Click on Edit Lookup Table

Higglight the values and delete by selecting "delete row" option from
top tool bar

Click OK on Customize Enterprise Fileds window

Save Enterprise global (File -> Save)

Exit Project Professional

Relaunch Project professional and verify outline code values will not
be shown

Thanks Chak, but this does not work and that is my problem. I go through this
routine and the Enterprise Project Outline Code is still in the enterprise
global after saving and cannot be deleted from the enterpriose global
organizer.

Scott,

I doubt, you are not deleting the values from enterprise global. Make
sure, you are deleting the values from Edit Lookup table window.
Please don't forget to save enterprise global after you delete the
values. To see the real effect, you have to exit project
profressional (File -> Exit) and relaunch project professional.

If you have issues, you can send an email to me.

Thanks
Chak

You have gotten some bad information in response to your post, which is why
you still cannot solve this problem. I would recommend you do the
following:

1. Launch Project Professional 2003 and connect to Project Server with
administrator permissions.
2. Click Tools - Enterprise Options - Open Enterprise Global.
3. Click Tools - Customize - Enterprise Fields.
4. Click the Custom Outline Codes tab.
5. Select the Project option.
6. Select one custom outline code at a time and look for any one of them
for which the "Share another code's lookup table" option is selected.
7. If you find any, deselect this option.
8. Click the Resource option and repeat steps #6 and #7.
9. Click the Tasks option and repeat steps #6 and #7.

Note: Based on the error you see in the Organizer dialog, there MUST be at
least one outline code sharing another one's lookup table.

10. Click the OK button.
11. Click Tools - Organizer.
12. Click the Fields tab and then select the Task option.
13. In the list on the right, delete any custom enterprise Task outline
codes.
14. Select the Resource option.
15. In the list on the right, delete any custom enterprise Resource outline
codes.
16. Click the Close button.
17. Save and close the Enterprise Global file.
18. Exit and relaunch Project Professional 2003 and connect to Project
Server.

Hope this helps.

Dale and Scott,

My apologies, I didn't understood the issue completley. I completly
overlooked the
issue you are describing on Share outline code concept.

Dale: I agres, my response was not complete, but you should not say
bad. :)

Thanks

That was it. I went through and found a few sharing boxes checked under
Resources. Unchecked the boxes and bingo, the organizer allowed me to delete.

Also, for future readers of this thread, I realized that I was clicking the
Cut icon in the Edit Lookup Table window instead of clicking the Delete Row
button. So, there was no data showing in the rows, but it was still
there...hiding. This is why the code masking values were not clearing.

Thanks for the help.

I did not mean to belittle your response. By "bad" I meant invalid or
incorrect. In spite of this, however, I genuinely appreciate your efforts
to help Scott, and appreciate all of the responses you have made in this
newsgroup to help people. Keep up the good work, my friend! :)
