STOP auto formating. Let us turn it off! (like lite header font)

Word's autoformating functions are MADDENING! Why can't I choose what format
I want for my header? Word is not sending my document, nor writing my words
(though I think it might try sometimes). It's MY document! I'd like to
format it myself.

The format function irritating me today is the automatic lightening of the
header. I NEED it to be dark and bold - not muted. So, I'm going to dig out
my old trusty Word Perfect that allows me to decide what I want rather than
telling me I'm too silly to decide for myself. Even after more than a
decade, Word still makes me say bad words.

You can certainly choose any formatting you want for your header. See
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/TameAutoFormat.htm and
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/styles/ModifyAStyle.html. But the header
text will always be dimmed when you are working in the document to show you
that it is in a different document "story." When you are working in the
header, the document body is dimmed. You can see the document as it will
print in Print Preview; if you turn the magnifier off, you can edit in that
view.
