Stop auto purging of deleted IMAP mail

I am assisting someone who has their Outlook 2003 configured for IMAP. When
they delete a message and it has the strike-through line, they want to stop
Outlook from automatically deleting those messages upon exiting Outlook.
They are not connected to Exchange.
