Stop automatic download of mail

Each time I open Entourage, it automatically downloads new mail. Is there anyway to stop this like in most other mail programs? (because I can see nothing obvious in preferences).

Go to Tools>Schedules, double click on the schedule Send and Receive All,
and delete the When entry labeled On Startup. You can then set it to send
and receive mail according to your desired schedule.

Thanks Ed. Appreciate it. Now, if I can only get E to delete messages
"downward" instaed of "upward" without having the use two or three keys, that
would be wonderful.

Emile

You're welcome.

As far as deleting down, I think you're stuck with using at least two keys.

Yes, so I have finally come to realize. I will have to click on the down
arrow and then delete and so on down the line. If the very first message is
highlighted, then deleting it takes me to the next message down and so on.
But if I pick a message in the middle somewhere and want to delete it and
the next messages below, the highlighter will move up and not down. will
move up. My only other choice is to highlight each message I want to delete
on the list and then delete them all at once. What an illogical misstep on
the designers' part. It's the basic way of doing things in all the email
ware I have used so far (Outlook Express, Outlook and TB).

Anyway, thanks again for the help and feedback.
