Stop change of date when reopening an older letter

When I open up a previously created letter in Word 2007 it automatically puts
in the current date. How do I stop this?????/

The problem date is constructed using a DATE field. If you select in, right
click, and toggle field codes you will see something like:

{ DATE }

DATE fields apply the current system date. Change DATE to CREATEDATE. A
CREATEDATE field applies the date a document was created (from the
properties dialog)

If you use a template to create these dated documents change the field in
the template as well. If you insert the date with Home>Insert>Text>Date &
Time then uncheck the option "Update automatically " in the Date and Time
dialog.

Hi,

In addition to Greg's sound advice, I would like to point out that sometimes
users work on a file over a period of time and they want the date when the
document was completed to be shown in the document, rather than the date when
the document was created. In such cases you can simply lock the contents of
the DATE field when you want it to stop changing. To lock a DATE field (or
any other field) so that it will not be updated again, place your cursor
within the field and press CTRL+3 or CTRL+F11. If you change your mind and
want to unlock the field so that it can be updated, place your cursor within
the field and press CTRL+4 or CTRL+SHIFT+F11.
