Stop command button appearing in form letters

I have a command button in a mail merge master document that brings up a form
for periodic data in addition to reipient data for the merge. When I do the
merge I do not want the command button on the form letters. How do I achieve
this?

Just before you do the merge, save the master.
Delete the button.
Then perform the merge.
After that, close the master without saving.

Thanks. That is what I have been trialling, but my macro is being written for
a sport's club member (club use) and ideally it needs to run in a straight
forward and fool-proof manner. Deleting and not saving is bound to cause
problems! I was hoping for some solution being possible.
