Stop Date Update On Open

G

Greg

Eric,

I can help you solve the problem one document at a time
but not all at once. Each document has a DATE field.
Select the date, right click and choose toggle field
code. Change { DATE } to { CREATEDATE } right click and
select update field. The date displayed will change to
the date the document was created.

If your client uses Insert>Date and Time for placing dates
in documents, they should uncheck "udate automatically" in
the dialog box.

Thanks. One doc at a time is better than nothing! Since
there are legal issues, I'm not sure create date is good
enough. I bet there's some undocumented "press Alt-F5
while standing on your head" key combination used when
opening the file to stop the date field update, but I
haven't found it yet!....Eric

If the date is really updating when you open the file (and not just when you
print), check the Undo list to see if it shows "Update fields." If so, Undo
that, then select the date and press Ctrl+Shift+F9, which will unlink it and
convert it to plain text (you could also lock the field, but there's no
point in doing that since you'd never need to unlock it).
