stop first video on slide and have frame remain during second vid

Using either powerpoint 2002 or 2003, I want to have 2 videos side-by-side on
the same slide. I'd like to have both run simulaneously, but don't think
that's possible. So I'd like to start one video, and stop it before the end
and have that image remain while playing the 2nd video, then stop the second
video at a similar time point to compare the images on the 2 videos. I can
start the first video and stop it and have that frame displayed, but as soon
as I click on the 2nd video to start it playing, the frame on the first one
automatically changes to the first frame of the video instead of remaining at
the place where I had stopped it.

I'm not getting that same effect when I insert two videos (I'm able to freeze
one then start the other). Do you have them both set to start "when clicked"?

Yes, they are both set to start 'when clicked'; I don't know if it makes any
difference, but these are .avi video clips; are yours? Also, which
powerpoint version are you using? BTW, you aren't able to get them both to
run simultaneously are you?

It is possible to have two videos running simultaneously. Click Slide Show >
Custom Animation. You will see two play effects. On the second play effect,
set the Start to "With Previous". Does it work?

I didn't realize that option was available; I tried it, but it didn' work.
When I ran it as a slideshow, and double clicked the image, it just advanced
one frame on the video that was clicked (?). Any suggestions? Is it
possible that it would work if the videos were .mpg instead of .avi files?

Works for me here. If you have the first play effect set to "After previous"
while the second play effect set to "With Previous", will it work?

If you want the movie to stop at last frame, right click on the movie, click
Edit Movie object. Uncheck "Rewind movie when done playing".

Insert the video files. (Yes you may insert the same video twice or simply
copy/paste the first one.)

Now, right click them and select animations.

In the animation pane select Add Effect and then "Movie Actions"

Here you will be given three options. Start, Stop, and Pause.

You may now have the movie pause by clicking it, or creating a object (a
button) and use it as a Trigger.


If you are having problems due to the file types I's suggest trying PFCMedia

Now it's working. Here's the procedure: insert 2 videos on slide. Right
click on 1st video. Select Custom Animation. Choose in the Start box: On
Click. Then r. click on 2nd video; in the larger window, (below Trigger,
choose Timing from the dropdown; in the Timing menu, select Start: With
previous, and at the bottom of that menu, select Start effect on click of:
enter file name of video #1.
