stop it from auto filling

When using the chart wizard, I have column A sports a list of dates. Quarter
ending dates from 03/1988 to 09/2004. I have deleted many dates that are no
longer needed. When making a chart Axis X labels. It automatically fills in
all the dates previously deleted in the chart. How can I stop it from auto
filling in those obsolete dates?

The x-axis has defaulted to a time-scale. To change the setting:

Select the chart
Choose Chart>Options
Select the Axes tab
For Category (X) axis, choose Category, click OK
