stop making me drag out my CD for updates

Why does Microsoft continue to make me drag out my Office XP CD to update?
They evidently do a search of my harddrive to see what updates are required,
so they are most likely aware of the version and serial number of my
registered copy. It would seem that any required files could be contained in
the update and I could keep my CD locked up. Although many home users
probably have their software CD's close at hand, companies such as mine have
hundreds of CD's to keep track of and they are safely stored away most of the
time, particularly the expensive ones like Office XP.

Hi, REACH,

The Office team has made changes to make patching without source easier to
do, like using the Local Install Source (LIS) in Office 2003, but that's not
available for Office XP.

There are two types of patches: binary and full file. You can download
full file patches for Office XP that will not require the CD.

If your system has any residual Office 2000 components on it, that's a
little trickier, and you may still need the original CDs to patch those.
