Stop msjet40.dll generation

I've already read some questions very similar to the one I'm asking now, but
did not see a 100% satisfying answer.
My query is how to stop msjet40.dll file from being automatically generated.
Because, for ODBC access purposes, I need to have it in the older version
(4.0.2xxx.x).
I know that I must delete some files from the regedit window, but I'm not
sure which ones. Could anyone please help me.

Do you mean updated by the Windows/Microsoft Update service?

Whoa, that's pretty old and had lots of bugs and security risks. What
are the problems with it.

I suspect even Windows XP SP1 back in 2000 might have an update to
msjet40.dll in it. Yup, according to
http://support.microsoft.com/dllhelp/?fid=74327&l=55&det=1 4.0.3714.7
was contained in Win XP SP1.

So are you prepared to regress your Windows XP operating systems to
before SP1?
