stop office apps from opening in IE

Is there a way to open a office file in it's associated office application
rather than in Internet Explorer.

Example, I click on a link to a DOC file. It will ask me to Open, Save,
Cancel, More Info
(Always ask before opening this type of file)
When I click open, I want it to open in Word rather than IE.

Any help is appreciated.

Control Panel/Folder Options/File Types
Scroll down to eg DOC and ammend to appropriate App, If not shown add

Hi Jeff,

I agree with DL that we can change the settings for "file type". Below are
the detailed steps:

1. From My Computer-->Tools-->Folder options
2. On the "File Types" tab, find the .doc type.
3. Click Advanced button.
4. Uncheck the option "Browse in same window".
