Stop optional hyphens from triggering AutoCorrect

Our office uses Word97 at the moment and I make heavy use of AutoCorrect for
common words ("h" = "the"; "d" = "and"; "pro" = "proceed" and so on).
However, for reasons unknown to me, <Word> treats an optional hyphen (which
I also frequently use) as a trigger for AutoCorrect, and so if I put in an
optional hyphen after "pro" in "property", it will immediately change "pro"
to "proceed", creating the non-word "proceedperty". I realize that Ctrl-Z
will reverse this mistriggering, but this is a pain. Can I not suppress this
kind of malfunction? Is WORD 2000 any better?

AutoCorrect is triggered by a space or punctuation mark. An optional hyphen
is a punctuation mark. I suggest that you redefine your AutoCorrect entries
to include a character that you will not be typing as part of a word.

Hi Suzanne,

Maybe according to the letter... but according to the spirit, AutoCorrect
should kick in after you typed a word, and an optional hyphen obviously
doesn't mark the end of a word. I'll vote for the suggestion, anyway :)

Regards,
Klaus
